Gaining weight is hard to avoid when we eat in front of the TV. As long as food is readily available, most of us will continue to eat, well past the point of satiation.
We end up eating more because we simply eat to the pace
of the program, or we eat until the program is over.
Eating in front of the TV sets us up to prefer unhealthy
foods, because we are exposed to more advertising for unhealthy foods, than
commercials for fresh fruits and vegetables.
Guilty as charged. It’s typical me. But it’s hard when the game is on.
ReplyDeleteI suffer from the same problem myself. I guess as soon as the TV pops on, my mind switches to autopilot and whatever is on my plate gets consumed. It's something that I never really thought about it until now. I wonder what else happens while my brain is operating on autopilot?
DeleteI am one of them too, but it’s going to be really hard for me to make this change. I’m so used to watching TV, working on the computer, or even just reading a book while I’m eating.
ReplyDeleteWhen I eat, I always read and have the TV on because I don't like silence. I live alone so I generally eat solo.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, the TV is on when I eat.
ReplyDeleteThat does sound rather unfortunate to me. Maybe, and this is contingent on it being a problem, you'll have to relocate to athough room? If it's a problem to your health, then it's so worth it.
DeleteMy wife tries to make sure I eat very lightly with celery or something else that will not just sit in the stomach overnight and gain the pounds. Eat healthy light snacks
ReplyDeleteThat is certainly a rather cool way to kind of force yourself to eat healthy. If your brain's going to be on autopilot anyway, you might as well utilize it to you shovel healthy foods into your system. Great idea, I might just steal that for myself.

ReplyDeleteNope! I don't watch television anymore and all my meals are eaten at the table. I find that eating at the table really cuts down on mindless munching.
