We must become more knowledgeable

The weight-loss industry has exploded in recent years. Consumers are expected to spend about $66 billion this year on diet soft drinks, health club memberships, dietary supplements and other products aimed at weight loss.

Some manufacturers are feeding on the false hopes of so many people who would do anything to lose weight and in the quickest amount of time.

By promoting unrealistic expectations and false hopes, they doom current weight-loss efforts to failure and make future attempts less likely to succeed.

We must become more knowledgeable about achieving and maintaining healthy weight and more skeptical of ads promising quick fixes.

The more you know, the more likely you are to do the right thing. Knowledge is the first step to a successful weight loss, but it is the application of knowledge that yields sustained success.

When people know more about the realities of weight-loss, fewer will be inclined to waste their money, time and effort on products that don’t work as advertised.

And the real secret they don’t want you to know is that while losing weight may not be fun or easy, but you don’t need to take out your wallet to do it.

  1. Dude! I believe what you say about weight loss and how it cannot be achieved without any action. I also enjoyed the post where you talked about no hunger. I think that knowledge does push us to our goals and helps us see what is important.

  2. It's up to you to be skeptical of their claims and look for their credibility. Those pushing weight loss products claim that there is no scientific consensus on what works and want you to believe, that the traditional view of weight management is not working.

  3. I think most of the weight loss programs advertise in such a way that it makes people think the weight will magically disappear without having to do physical activity or change their diet. That just isn't true. First of all, it takes time to put the weight on, therefore it is going to take some time and effort to get it off. Changing the way you eat and the foods you eat along with a regular exercise program is the only true way to lose the weight and keep it off. It has to be a lifestyle change. Otherwise losing some quick weight will only be put back on as soon as you go back to your regular habits

  4. You have to have a strong will to lose weight. Knowledge itself is not enough.

  5. Yes! You hit the nail on the head when you said they "promote unrealistic expectations". It seems every few months there is a new celebrity diet or magic pill. The reality is that weight loss is just about eating less calories then you body needs!

  6. The only thing that will help you lose weight is diet and exercise. There's no miracle weight loss product out there. People are just so lazy now that they don't want to have to actually exercise or change their diet.

  7. Thank you for reminding us that we actually need knowledge of our own when starting a weight loss journey, not just things that we are being fed from food packets and television ads. I think we often forget that these people have a common goal and that's to make money, first and foremost before everything else, and that's never ever in the advantage of those trying to make a start on their weight loss goals. The best thing a person can do for themselves is to do their own research and then work out which things in the industry will actually help them, and sometimes even avoid the industry products all together, because diet and excersise will be much more affective than some silly thing that caught your eye on TV or a store.

  8. I completely agree with you. Knowledge is key, because so much nonsense is tossed out there for people to lose weight, when all it does is make it harder or hurts our bodies even more. I have gone organic because of this and I'm thankful I did. I eat healthy and I workout often and it's the best thing I've ever done.
